What is microneedling?

A quick look at how this collagen-stimulating treatment works and what it can do for your skin.

How it works

Your body’s own healing response, gently switched on

Microneedling uses a medical-grade device with ultra-fine sterile needles to create tiny microchannels in the skin. Your body reads each one as a micro-injury and answers with a surge of collagen and elastin, the structural proteins that keep skin firm, smooth, and youthful.

Those same microchannels let nourishing serums absorb far more deeply than they could on their own, and the session is finished with red light therapy to calm inflammation and support recovery.

At Resonance Wellness, every microneedling treatment is thoughtfully customized to your skin concerns and overall wellness goals. Dr. Heather’s approach combines evidence-based technique with a holistic understanding of skin health, for lasting, natural-looking results.

The benefits

Why patients choose microneedling

Builds your own collagen

Stimulates natural collagen and elastin production for firmer, more resilient skin over time.

Smooths tone & texture

Refines rough, uneven texture and softens the look of scars for a more even canvas.

Brightens complexion

Encourages fresh cell turnover so skin looks clearer, brighter, and more awake.

Deeper serum absorption

The microchannels let nourishing serums penetrate far more effectively than they could alone.

Minimal downtime

Far gentler than aggressive resurfacing, so most patients are back to normal the next day.

Safe for most skin types

A versatile, well-tolerated treatment when performed by a trained professional.

The experience

About an hour of calm, expert care, and a glow that keeps building

Your visit is unhurried and comfortable, from the first gentle pass to the final minutes of red light therapy. You rest; your skin gets to work. Improvements continue developing for weeks as new collagen forms.

Microneedling questions, answered

Does microneedling hurt?
Most patients find it very tolerable. Your treatment begins with a topical numbing cream so the session itself feels like little more than a light vibration or scratching sensation across the skin.
Is there downtime?
Very little. Your skin may look pink or mildly sunburned for 24–72 hours. Most patients return to their normal daily activities the following day while following a simple post-care routine.
How many treatments will I need?
Because collagen remodeling continues for weeks afterward, results build gradually. Most people see the best results with a series of 3–6 treatments spaced about four weeks apart, then occasional maintenance.
When will I see results?
Some glow is visible within days as skin recovers, but the meaningful changes (firmer, smoother, more even skin) develop over the weeks following each session as new collagen forms, and continue to improve across your series.
How is this different from cosmetic acupuncture?
Both stimulate your skin’s natural repair response. Microneedling uses a medical-grade device to create precise microchannels for collagen induction and is especially effective for scars, pores, and texture. Cosmetic acupuncture is a gentler facial protocol. Dr. Heather can help you choose, or combine, the right approach for your goals.
Who is not a good candidate?
Microneedling isn’t recommended during active breakouts or skin infections, for certain skin conditions, or during pregnancy. Your consultation includes a thorough skin assessment to make sure it’s a safe, appropriate fit for you.
